Makes good coffee but trouble prone and service is slow
Makes good coffee, espresso, cappuccino, etc.
It tends to have problems quite often that require having Miele visit. If you decide to buy this, get the extended warranty. That's not very expensive, but then again this unit costs more than $2500. And keep your inexpensive drip coffee or inexpensive small espresso maker plugged in for the times that this unit needs repair. After Miele telephone support agrees that its not user-fixable, they tell you that the on-site service guys will call. So it can be several days before you have the unit working again.
Extremely unforgiving of user errors and it's not easily user-fixable even with the help of Miele telephone support.
Can be difficult to clean: there's a honeycombed insert into the drip tray that creates hard to clean crevices. A bad idea given that coffee is oily and sticky.
When the brew unit goes wrong, as it has couple times for me, I wish Miele would ship me a replacement unit and then have me ship the problem...
Hard to live without
I can't disagree with the other reviewers here. After 3 months, our heating unit went bad. The boys came out and fixed it but had to order the part. I was down for 5 days. The unit will kick out error codes from time to time-some my fault, others not. We caused the machine pain when we used some Starbucks coffee as well which gummed up the unit. We use Dunkin' Donut coffee beans now and have had no problems.
I agree with the extended warranty suggestion. I also think this machine is way overpriced. So, why 4 stars? Because we're addicted to it now.
The machine makes great coffee. I've seen reviews on other sites about the coffee or espresso being too cold. There are temperature adjustments to solve that. We get water fault codes. Just need to take the water bin out and reseat it. All pretty easy issues to resolve-to get great coffee. My wife and I think it is one of the best things we put in our new kitchen.
After 2.5 years, we were down for 5 days...
Can't live without it now!
We had this machine installed into our remodeled kitchen nearly 3 years ago; unlike the other reviewers we have had no service problems with the machine. We clean it faithfully as well as run the descaling/cleaning rituals as instructed (this is kind of a PITA as the tabs are a little pricey and hard to find). The amount of money we have saved by NOT going to Starbucks has paid for the price of this machine many times over. If you can afford it, I highly recommend this machine. It makes excellent coffee and after 3 years of heavy (my husband is an addict) daily use, we have never had a breakdown.
